Richard E. Dolder

Richard E. Dolder leads Slappey & Sadd’s insurance recovery practice, focusing on holding insurers accountable when they negligently or in bad faith fail to settle claims against their insureds. He represents individuals and businesses facing excess judgments caused by an insurer’s refusal to settle, improper denial of coverage, or failure to provide a defense.

Rich also works closely with attorneys representing injured claimants in situations where insurers refuse to resolve claims fairly. In these matters, he helps secure equitable settlements or facilitates assignments of bad-faith claims from insured defendants.

A recognized authority in his field, Rich is the primary author of Insurance Bad Faith: The Law in Georgia, now in its fourth edition. He is widely regarded as a go-to resource on bad-faith failure-to-settle issues, relied upon by attorneys on both sides of the aisle. Under his leadership, Slappey & Sadd handles more failure-to-settle cases than any other firm in Georgia, representing both insureds facing significant judgments and claimants pursuing assigned bad-faith claims.

Before entering the legal profession, Rich was an award-winning journalist. He graduated at the top of his class from the University of Florida College of Law in 1998 and began his career in Atlanta representing underwriters in the Lloyd’s of London market. He later represented Fortune 500 companies in complex insurance coverage disputes at an international law firm.
